Born, Qianlong (Chi`en Lung) in 1711, he was destined to be Emperor of China under the Qing(Ching) dynasty in 1736. At the tender age of 17, matured but still an Imperial Prince he met the man that changed his life and brought him over into unlife. Padre Mordecai, a visiting Jesuit from Spain learned of the boys passions for ballet and the teachings of the great poets and prophets of China. Possessing skill in combat, tactics, philosophy, martial arts and ballet, Qianlong was the perfect candidate for the Padre's long term goals. At some time during these early years, he brought the boy over to the darkness that was his existence.

In 1736, Qianlong's father died, the Padre and the newly initiated Qianlong placed a surrogate Emperor on the throne. History would list the surrogate as Qianlong, Emperor of China and he would rule for 80 years. The true power, the real Qianlong and Padre Mordecai ruled from behind the scenes, secret shapers of 18th and 19th century Chinese government. It was during this time that Lia joined the Undead Emperor, a slave then, she was a constant companion to the young Shadow Emperor, then as now.

In the early part of the 20th century, the Communist party of China violently overthrew the old Manchurian system of Government. The Padre suspected an ancient rival and the tide of the new 'Way' could not be stemmed by the two olden powers. Fleeing China with what treasures could be saved, they went first to Japan until the debacle of WWII and the shortlived Manchurian re-instatement of P`u Yi, the Last Manchurian Emperor. When his bid died with the war and the full installation of Communist power in China, the trio fled to Europe. So ended a dynasty that had ruled China since 1644. The Manchurian Qing dynasty was no more.

From then on, Lia and Qianlong travelled alone, Padre Mordecai having disappeared as they passed through Italy. His disappearence and whereabouts are still a mystery. Montreal, Paris and finally Marseille brought Qianlong, who now called himself Xian Li Loong to the realisation that only through unity could the disparate tribes and breeds of the night be protected from the onslaught of mankind. And so he formed the Shadow Empire. A metaphysical domain that extended to many places in the world. It and Xian's philosophy: the Breeds could act as one, with strength and purpose to further their own existence and self-preservation. A united Empire of ALL creatures of the night, strong, together, under his rule.
